Grandpa

I was just looking some things up, trying to find out more about Grandma's Dunker heritage -- but, came across this interesting "review" of Grandpa's life.

Thought you might like to read it.

When Friendships Suffer

I have been doing soooo much thinking lately. So bear with me, if there are fewer pictures than words. So much going through my mind.

And you know I don't have any friends to share with.

LOL, not true, not true.

I do want to tell you about one longstanding friendship that may not have made it through this year of, shall we say, adjustment.

This particular friend and I had been close for about 20 years. Long time, now that I think about it, although it certainly doesn't seem that long.

We had our ups and downs, along the way, and my moves from continent to continent didn't make the friendship easier.

Well, when I moved back here, almost in the same suburb as this friend, only a couple of streets away, I assumed we would resume a close relationship.

But I didn't take into account the absolute draining I would experience from the move, and how I would have to not only recognize, but FEEL my losses.

And I didn't take into account that this friend would not be able to go there with me.

And I couldn't commiserate with her problems while desperately drowning in my own. She was feeling as though she "had nothing," while I was feeling that I had lost everything. I couldn't emotionally go there for her.

So, I left off that relationship, didn't return calls, didn't make dates to get together, and haven't seen her now for a year at least.

I know she is hurt.

Now, I feel a great deal healed, and I'd like to talk to her, patch things up.

Do you think it is too late?

Sick Children

Sorry for the lack of, well, anything, happening on the blog. The reason for this is there is too much happening at home -- three thoroughly sick littles. Including the Princess Katy.

Making a trip to the doc today. I guess it's been close to 3 years since we've had to make a sick trip to the doc.

God is good, isn't he, to have kept us so well for so long -- and He's just as good to us in sickness as he is in health.

Talk soon!

Alphabetical Fun With Deb

We made a pretty decent list of things-to-do-while-Deb-is-here. A-Z, sort of. Here are some of them:

Adams County Amish
Aunt Jeannette's
Bob Evans
Buca Di Beppo
Cracker Barrel
Creation Museum, KY
Duggar Marathon
Frischs
Golden Corral
Graeters
Grandma's
Hancock's
Holmes County Amish
Home Church
Jungle Jim's
Kroger
Krohn Conservatory
Mall
McDonalds McGriddles
Metamora, IN
Michaels
Panera
Perkins
Primitive Baptist Church
Quilts
Steak n Shake
Taco Bell
WalMart
Walts BBQ
Whole Foods

Some of you American types might be wondering WHY things like Kroger or WalMart or McDonalds McGriddles would be on that list. The rest of the world just doesn't have stuff like all the McStuff Americans have, and it's sort of something to see. It's okay if you don't understand.

Snicker.

Halloween

While Mamma and Aunt Deb were hangin' with the emo's in Millersburg, and doing high-speed chases with the cops, Daddy and the other kids were having fun at home on Halloween.

I can't say that I know what all happened, but I know they passed out candy, dressed up, carved pumpkins and roasted pumpkin seeds, and Grandma and Grandpa came over to help and to enjoy the fun.

Here are the pics to prove it.

October Fun With Deb, Pt 3. Batter Blaster.

Ever since my previous post bringing some of the latest good ol' American products to you, Deb was intrigued by the Batter Blaster. Pancakes in a can, and "good for you" too ;-). So she went off to Kroger one day and returned with the goods.
It's sorta foamy.
Baked up all right after a few rounds.
Came out to mixed reviews.
Score: 8 for level of fun (still turned out to be cooking), 6 for taste, 5 for texture.

Thanks, Deb, for the experiment and for cooking them up for us. The children would have scored this 10 for fun, but they didn't have to clean up.

October Fun With Deb, Pt 1 Buca Di Beppo

My sister Deb flew all the way from Australia, with her baby Seth, to stay with us for three whole weeks. Her dear hubby took good care of the other four young children back home.

What a guy!! Thanks!!I have a few pictures to show you from when she was here, but of course we had a lot of fun that wasn't captured on camera. Cameras are a bit intrusive.

Anyway, one fine day Daddy was off work and we went to this amazing little restaurant, Buca Di Beppo. We've been there before, about a decade ago, and had wanted to go back ever since.
The place is a little hard to describe but, essentially, it's Italian kitsch and good food.

Preps

I am happy -- so happy Deb is coming to visit!

Making it pretty for her this week. I've been really busy, and still haven't taken any pics.

I am sure the next few weeks will be full of fun n photos for you guys back home.

Obligatory Post

This is for you, Deb.

There are no pics, because I haven't taken any.

It's autumn, did you know that? The days are shortening, the dark is lengthening, the temperature is cooling, the furnace is heating.

Leaves are falling. Whoop-de-do. Now I catch glimpses of cars zooming down the freeway, and soon I'll see the whole screaming stream of traffic. Yay for me.

Mosquitoes are biting, squirrels are hoarding, trees are dying or drying or dropping or falling. Clouds are gathering, sunshine is weakening.

Somebody, somewhere, is glad it's autumn. Somebody, somewhere, is happy to see colors changing, and pumpkins, and to be playing in the leaves. Somebody, somewhere, wants to enjoy hot chocolate in front of the blazing fire. Somebody, somewhere, is looking forward to the first snow and icicle eaves.

Yep, all those precious things reminding us that this is autumn, again, in America.

This is autumn. Again. In America.

Jr Spragus, Number 5

Picture, if you will, a small boy, newly turned Four Years Old.

A small boy, of unusual talents.

Soccer rules, not being one of them.

Following directions, also not being one of them.

Running, also not being one of them.

Chasing a ball, ditto.

Kicking a ball towards the goal...not so much one of his talents.

Picking his nose with his tongue, definitely a talent.

Entertaining a crowd on the sidelines, yep.

Chatting up the opposition's coaches, absolutely.

Marching to the beat of his own drummer, for sure.

Falling down dramatically and spontaneously, definitely.

Now, just for fun, have him play the all-sibling dream team.

But First: Sweet Baby Kate, 7 Weeks
